Job Description

Company Description

Our client is a jewelry distributor partnering with an international network of manufacturing partners to design, develop, and deliver commercial jewelry collections for major retail customers. The company operates across fashion, costume, and opening price point jewelry, with a strong focus on accessible products designed for high-volume retail environments. Its teams work closely across design, product development, sales, and overseas factories to bring market-relevant collections from concept to production.

Objective of the Role

The Jewelry Designer will be responsible for creating commercially viable costume and fashion jewelry designs from initial concept through production-ready artwork. This role requires a strong understanding of trend direction, retail customer expectations, jewelry construction, and the practical requirements of overseas manufacturing. The successful candidate will support the development of collections for major national retailers such as Walmart, Target, Kohl’s, Amazon, or similar accounts, while balancing creativity, manufacturability, timing, and cost objectives.

Ideal Profile

The ideal candidate will have prior experience designing costume, fashion, or opening price point jewelry, preferably for mass market or mid-tier retail channels. Experience working with big box retailers or suppliers serving major national accounts will be highly relevant. The candidate should be able to translate market trends and customer needs into commercially sound product concepts, while remaining attentive to production feasibility, target margins, and retail positioning.

The role is best suited for a designer who is neither too junior nor too senior, and who can work independently while staying closely aligned with internal stakeholders and factory partners. A flexible work arrangement may be considered, but the company has a preference for candidates who can work in person in Northern New Jersey or maintain regular office touchpoints.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and develop original costume and fashion jewelry designs aligned with current and emerging trends across value, mass market, and mid-tier retail channels.
  • Create detailed sketches, technical drawings, specifications, and production-ready artwork suitable for handoff to overseas manufacturing partners.
  • Design with cost, construction, materials, plating, tolerances, production timing, and target margins in mind.
  • Develop collections tailored to the aesthetic and commercial expectations of major retail accounts.
  • Collaborate with product development, sales, and factory partners to ensure that designs meet customer, margin, quality, and timeline requirements.
  • Review samples, communicate design revisions clearly, and support the product development process through commercialization.
  • Manage multiple design projects across seasonal and ad hoc collection cycles.
  • Maintain organized design files, technical specifications, and visual assets for current and archived collections.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of jewelry design experience, preferably with a strong emphasis on costume, fashion, or opening price point jewelry.
  • Experience designing for or servicing major retailers such as Walmart, Target, Kohl’s, Amazon, or comparable accounts.
  • Strong understanding of jewelry construction, materials, plating, manufacturing processes, and overseas production constraints.
  • Proficiency in relevant design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, CAD, Rhino, or comparable tools.
  • Ability to create factory-friendly specifications that balance creativity with production feasibility and commercial objectives.
  • Strong visual communication skills and a portfolio demonstrating relevant commercial jewelry design work.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage deadlines across multiple projects.
  • Willingness to work in person in Northern New Jersey or maintain regular office touchpoints as needed.
