Job Description
Company Description
Our client is an established premium children’s apparel company with a longstanding presence in the U.S. market. The organization operates primarily through direct-to-consumer channels and is expanding its distribution strategy across marketplaces, wholesale partnerships and selected physical retail opportunities.
Despite its established history, the company maintains an entrepreneurial and fast-moving operating environment. Team members are expected to work with a high degree of autonomy, adapt to evolving priorities and collaborate effectively across functions.
Objective of the Role
Our client is creating a dedicated General Manager position to build, launch and lead its Amazon business (aka Head of Amazon). Reporting to the Chief Digital Officer, this individual will assume full accountability for the channel’s strategy, execution and financial performance.
The General Manager / Head of Amazon will own a standalone P&L and develop the marketplace into a material growth platform, with the potential to represent approximately 10% to 20% of the company’s business over time.
This is an individual-contributor leadership role without immediate direct reports. The successful candidate must therefore combine general-management capabilities with current, hands-on marketplace expertise. External agencies and internal functional partners will provide support, but accountability for the business will remain with this individual.
Ideal Profile
The ideal candidate is an experienced Amazon business leader who has directly managed a meaningful marketplace operation and understands the specific commercial and operational requirements of apparel.
Experience within premium children’s apparel is strongly preferred. Candidates should understand assortment complexity, sizing, seasonality, inventory planning and the customer expectations associated with a branded, premium product environment.
The successful individual will have worked in an entrepreneurial or resource-conscious organization where leaders are required to operate strategically while remaining close to execution. Candidates whose experience has depended heavily on large teams, highly specialized internal resources or purely supervisory responsibilities may be less suited to the role.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the Amazon business strategy, operating plan and financial objectives.
- Assume ownership of the channel P&L, including revenue, margin, advertising investment and profitability.
- Lead the launch and ongoing development of the company’s direct marketplace business.
- Manage forecasting, assortment planning, pricing, inventory requirements and promotional activity.
- Oversee product listings, content, reviews, search optimization and marketplace presentation.
- Direct performance marketing and advertising strategy in partnership with external agencies.
- Work directly within Seller Central to review performance, resolve issues and implement operational updates.
- Establish performance metrics, reporting processes and governance routines.
- Manage external agencies as extensions of the internal team while maintaining direct accountability for outcomes.
- Partner cross-functionally with merchandising, product, sourcing, finance, operations, marketing and executive leadership.
- Influence decisions across the organization without relying on formal authority.
Requirements
- Significant experience managing an Amazon marketplace business, preferably within a branded apparel company.
- Recent, hands-on knowledge of Seller Central and the evolving Amazon ecosystem.
- Demonstrated P&L ownership and experience building or scaling a substantial e-commerce business.
- Experience managing forecasting, promotions, listings, advertising and marketplace operations.
- Background in premium children’s apparel strongly preferred; broader premium apparel experience may be considered.
- Strong analytical, commercial and financial-management capabilities.
- Ability to evaluate, challenge and direct specialized agencies.
- Entrepreneurial, adaptable and comfortable operating as a senior individual contributor.
- Strong cross-functional communication and influencing skills.
- Availability to work Pacific business hours and travel approximately once per month.
