Our client is a full-package apparel production company specializing in knitwear products, with a focus on graphic-driven apparel such as short sleeve tees. Operating as a joint venture, the company aims to sell directly to retailers while managing both its own brand and private labels. Headquartered in Atlanta, GA, the company is positioned in a startup environment, seeking to expand its reach primarily across Middle America.

Objective of the Role

The Executive Director of Sales and Merchandising will be tasked with managing and developing fruitful relationships with key retail accounts including those in the Farm & Home and Sporting Goods sectors. The role’s primary objective is to ensure alignment with market expectations while driving product line development and overall company growth.

Ideal Profile

The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in the apparel industry with a strong emphasis on private label experience. They should have a proven track record of success in sales, particularly with retailers such as Tractor Supply, Rural King, Academy Sports + Outdoors, and similar chains. Seniority is preferred, though not strictly defined, and familiarity with relevant software and systems is anticipated.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive sales and merchandising strategies aligned with company goals.
  • Curate seasonal graphics and product assortments in collaboration with the creative team.
  • Create, lead, and motivate a sales team while setting performance targets to drive revenue growth.
  • Forecast inventory levels to optimize stock while minimizing losses.
  • Ensure effective product display in retail environments to maximize sales potential.
  • Collaborate with internal teams across operations, creative, and product development to execute merchandising plans.
  • Manage budgets for sales activities to ensure efficient resource allocation.
  • Utilize data analytics to track performance and inform decision-making.

Requirements

  • 7-10+ years of experience in sales, account management, or apparel merchandising.
  • A proven understanding of both retail and wholesale mathematics and key performance indicators.
  • Strong knowledge in merchandising, category management, and visual merchandising.
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills to effectively influence buyers.
  • Demonstrated capability of working independently on strategic initiatives.
  • A proactive, results-oriented mindset comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
