Objective of the Role

The Senior Market Manager for the NYC Metro area will be responsible for overseeing sales execution, distributor performance, and team leadership across the region. Reporting to the Regional Sr. Director for New England, this individual will lead a team of 3 On & Off-Premise Sales Representatives, and will be accountable for achieving business objectives, managing distributor relationships, and elevating market presence. The role is designed as a pipeline to future regional leadership responsibilities.

Ideal Profile

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A solid background in the wine & spirits industry, working directly on the supplier/brand side (not from distributors), with a strong preference for premium or ultra-premium portfolios.
  • Proven team management and distributor relationship experience within a 3-tier system.
  • A data-driven mindset with strong analytical and financial acumen.
  • The ability to develop talent, optimize execution, and partner effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ambitions and capabilities aligned with potential promotion to a Regional Director role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coach a team of 3 sales representatives in both on-premise and off-premise channels.
  • Own and drive overall market performance including sales planning, financial tracking, execution, and local profitability.
  • Manage day-to-day relationships with distributor partners and ensure alignment on business objectives.
  • Lead business planning cycles and quarterly business reviews (QBRs) with key distributor contacts.
  • Act as the local market authority for brand standards, education, visual merchandising, and program execution.
  • Ensure accurate local pricing, budget adherence, inventory flow, and expense management.
  • Develop strong relationships with priority accounts and top-performing outlets in the territory.
  • Identify growth opportunities and support rollout of tools, programs, and systems in the field.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 5+ years of experience in wine & spirits, with 2–3 years in distributor management.
  • Experience working in a 3-tier environment.
  • Strong analytical, financial, and commercial skills.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Must be 21+ and able to obtain a solicitor’s permit where required.
  • Home-based in NYC or Northern NJ, with regular travel in the region and availability for in-person NYC meetings.
