Retail and Hospitality industries hirings were up in December 2009
In December 2009, most of the 12 industries identified by indeed.com were down compared to last year in terms of hiring needs. Ahead and with a positive trend we can see the Retail, Hospitality and Education industries. Behind are without surprise the Construction and Real Estate industries.
Indeed.com allows us to make a zoom on the retail industry for a more precise analysis of the employment market trend in this sector.
What is interesting to see is that even if hiring needs in retail have increased (+17%), they have not increased as much as the demand for retail job opportunities (+50%). There has obviously been a much higher number of job seekers in 2009 than last year.
The second interesting point is that companies tend to hire more between August and November in order to be ready for the holidays. This is even more obvious when looking at Florida. Whether Bal Harbour, Boca Raton, Worth Avenue, Lincoln Road, Sunset Place or Aventura Mall they all work on a 6 month-year during winter. If they have to hire new Store Managers or Sales Associates, they have to do it before December or risk to loose of lot of sales by lack of sales staff or retail management.
